A RESOLUTION

Commending Monica Kaufman; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Monica Kaufman anchors Channel 2 Action News at 5:00, 6:00, and 11:00, Monday through Friday; and

WHEREAS, she graduated from the University of Louisville, and worked as a reporter with The Louisville Times for four years and as a reporter and anchor with WHAS-TV in Louisville for two years before joining WSB-TV in August, 1975; and

WHEREAS, her distinguished career as a television journalist has been has been recognized by many awards, including 23 local and Southern Regional Emmy Awards for talent, reporting, and "Monica Kaufman Closeups"; and

WHEREAS, her 1992 investigative report on the Georgia High School Association, which in 87 years had never selected a woman for its executive committee and had no statewide competition for girls' soccer and cheerleading, earned the Women's Sports Journalism Award for Local Television Reporting from the Women's Sports Foundation and Miller Lite; and

WHEREAS, her documentary "Hot Flash! The Truth About Menopause" on March 18, 1995, earned First Place recognition for Excellence in Journalism/Documentary from the Atlanta Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and two awards from the National American Women in Radio and Television, in competition with network programs; and

WHEREAS, she continues to go above and beyond the call of duty in assisting charities, non-profit organizations, and neighborhood causes.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Monica Kaufman, an outstanding humanitarian and public servant, for 30 years of exemplary service to the people and the State of Georgia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Monica Kaufman.
