Senate Resolution 18 EX

A RESOLUTION

Expressing regret at the passing of Elsie Dyar Dennon; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on April 14, 2005, the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens with the passing of Elsie Dyar Dennon; and

WHEREAS, Elsie Dyar Dennon was born on August 7, 1918, on Confederate Avenue in the Grant Park neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated from Commercial High School; and

WHEREAS, on March 1, 1945, she married William "Bill" Dennon, a Navy pilot, at the naval base in Pensacola, Florida; and

WHEREAS, in the 1950's, she and Bill founded True Dimension Manufacturing Company which produced screens, storm windows, and storm doors and developed the company into a large and respected manufacturing company with clients throughout the southeastern United States; and

WHEREAS, she was a devout Roman Catholic and was, at various times, a member of the metro Atlanta parishes of St. Thomas More, Sts. Peter and Paul, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Holy Cross, and All Saints; and

WHEREAS, she devoted her considerable talent and hard work to the betterment of her community as can be seen from her service as president of the Atlanta Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women from 1964 until 1966 and as a founding member of St. Thomas More, Sts. Peter and Paul Church and School, and Holy Cross; and

WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and her significant organizational and leadership talents, her remarkable patience and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her sensitivities earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, the passing of this generous, kind, and devoted lady leaves an unfillable void in the hearts and lives of her family and friends.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize the leadership and lifetime of service and dedication of Elsie Dyar Dennon and express deep regret at the loss of this admirable and outstanding lady.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Elsie Dyar Dennon.
