RESOLUTION
Remembering
and commemorating Bernard "Buster" Kite for his contributions to the Columbus,
Georgia, community; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Santa Claus lost a loyal helper and the City of Columbus, Georgia, lost a fine
citizen when Mr. Kite, 85, passed away; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Kite first donned a white beard and red coat to play the classic role of
Santa in 1957; and
WHEREAS,
when Pine Manor Nursing Home opened in 1967, it searched for someone to play
Santa Claus and Mr. Kite happily volunteered to play the role, and he continued
to play the role every year thereafter until his death; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Kite was a veteran of World War II and saw action as a United States Marine
in the Pacific; and
WHEREAS,
as a grandparent Mr. Kite served as PTA President at Jordan High School and
Britt David Elementary School, both in Columbus; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Kite's contributions and joyful personality will be missed by so many who
knew and cared for him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
commemorate and remember the contributions of Mr. Bernard "Buster"
Kite.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Bernard
"Buster" Kite.
