RESOLUTION
Congratulating
the Court of Appeals of Georgia on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Court of Appeals of Georgia will celebrate its Centennial during 2006; and
WHEREAS,
the Court of Appeals of Georgia was organized to assist and relieve the Supreme
Court of Georgia of its overburdensome caseload; and
WHEREAS,
the Court of Appeals of Georgia was created by constitutional amendment ratified
by the public on October 3, 1906, and its three judges held the court's first
session on January 7, 1907, in what is now the Appropriations Room of the State
Capitol; and
WHEREAS,
the caseload of the Court of Appeals of Georgia has increased tremendously
through the years as Georgia has taken a leading role among the states, and its
population and economy have grown and diversified; and
WHEREAS,
the Court of Appeals of Georgia invites all citizens of Georgia to celebrate the
Centennial by learning about the history of the court; the judges who, over the
last century, have devoted their careers to serving justice; and the court's
role in ensuring fairness and adherence to the law.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that 2006 is hereby designated as a year
honoring the Court of Appeals of Georgia and its 100 years of existence as an
integral part of state government.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Chief Judge John H.
Ruffin, Jr. and the other members of the Court of Appeals of Georgia.
