RESOLUTION
Remembering
and honoring the life of Mrs. Alexandra Maria Williams Winzeler; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Alexandra Maria Williams was born on April 19, 1949, in Caracas, Venezuela, to
Lindsay "Gus" Williams and Rosalie Hrynshyn Williams; and
WHEREAS,
Alexandra (Sandy) and her sister Barbara (Bobbie) grew up in Venezuela,
Barbados, and finally, Miami, Florida; and
WHEREAS,
as a member of the National Honor Society and an actively involved student,
Sandy graduated from Coral Gables High School, Florida, in 1967;
and
WHEREAS,
Sandy attended and graduated from Emory University Nursing School in Atlanta,
Georgia, whereupon she met Harry William Winzeler III, and they were married on
December 20, 1974, and moved to Decatur and later Avondale Estates, Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
Sandy joined the Army Reserves and served on active duty in her medical unit,
and, upon completion of her duties, was distinguished with the high honor of
Captain; and
WHEREAS,
Sandy worked in Atlanta as a registered nurse, and, later, after receiving her
Masters in Nursing and Public Health from Emory University as a nurse
practitioner, at Western Electric, AT&T, Ciba Vision, and Emory University
Hospital; and
WHEREAS,
Sandy did outstanding work in the field of nursing and was constantly commended
for her clinical work, especially in the fields of occupational health and
orthopedic health; and
WHEREAS,
Sandy served the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses on the local
level and on the national level, sitting on several boards and heading up
certain areas of education and hospitality; and
WHEREAS,
Sandy shared her nursing skills on a national and an international scope through
numerous lectures and articles in medical journals, and she was justly awarded
and honored by her peers and colleagues for her dedication, skill, and
consistency for excellence; and
WHEREAS,
Sandy was a loving, compassionate, and faith-filled Christian who impacted all
those around her, both in a personal and in a professional atmosphere, all the
way to her struggle and death from ovarian cancer on September 24, 2003;
and
WHEREAS,
Sandy was a devoted wife to Billy, mother to Lindsay, sister to Bobbie, daughter
to Rosalie, daughter-in-law to Martha, and friend to many; and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia lost an accomplished individual and a beloved member of the
Georgia medical community with the passing of Mrs. Alexandra Maria Williams
Winzeler.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join
together to express their deepest regret at the passing of Mrs. Alexandra Maria
Williams Winzeler, and extend their most sincere condolences to Billy and her
family and community on the loss of such an individual to the terrible disease
that is ovarian cancer.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mrs.
Alexandra Maria Williams Winzeler.
