RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Jefferson High School Dragons wrestling team; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Jefferson High School Dragons wrestling team completed a superlative 2005
season in which the team won the Class A Duals State Championship for the fourth
straight time and won the Class A Traditional State Championship for the fifth
straight time; and
WHEREAS,
this remarkable team achieved what is almost certainly an unprecedented feat by
having wrestlers in the state championship finals in 13 out of 14 classes;
and
WHEREAS,
over the course of the season the team compiled a remarkable record of 11
tournament championships, including wins in the prestigious Brother Martin
Tournament in New Orleans, the Chattahoochee Invitational, the Panther
Invitational, the Vidalia Invitational, the Mountaineer Invitational, and the
Keen Classic, among others; and
WHEREAS,
the Jefferson program is well known and well respected in wrestling circles
throughout the state, and the team's outstanding 2005 season continues a strong
tradition of excellence.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body recognizes and commends
the Jefferson High School Dragons wrestling team for the great credit the team
reflects upon its school and community and the State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit copies of this resolution as may be appropriate, including copies to
Head Coach Doug Thurmond and Assistant Coaches Kendall Love and Bob
Gurley.
