A RESOLUTION

Commending Candice Walker; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Candice Walker is the state recipient of the 2004 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL), the first program of its type in the nation to honor outstanding students in postsecondary technical colleges; and

WHEREAS, GOAL brings together Georgia's business, government, and industry leaders with the state's technical colleges to celebrate technical education's vital impact on Georgia's workforce, prosperity, and future; and

WHEREAS, for more than 33 years, the GOAL program has served as an excellent example of a true partnership among business, industry, and education; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Walker was selected from among 37 local technical college GOAL winners who have demonstrated excellent academic and leadership ability at their respective technical colleges; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Walker is a Radiologic Technology student from Okefenokee Technical College who has volunteered with organizations such as Juvenile Diabetes, the March of Dimes, and the American Cancer Society and serves as the secretary for Okefenokee Technical College's Student Government Association; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Walker will serve as an ambassador for technical education in Georgia, representing more than 159,000 students benefiting from technical education programs throughout the state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Candice Walker for her outstanding achievements and her efforts to promote technical education in Georgia and convey their congratulations.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Candice Walker.
