RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and thanking an American hero, General H. Norman Schwarzkopf; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
H. Norman Schwarzkopf graduated from the United States Military Academy at West
Point in 1956 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, beginning the
fulfillment of a childhood dream of a military career and following in the
footsteps of his father; and
WHEREAS,
General Schwarzkopf served his country with the highest degree of honor and
devotion to duty until his retirement from active service in 1992; in addition
to many other important postings, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam,
including one as a battalion commander during which he was wounded twice and
earned three Silver Stars; and
WHEREAS,
the General's exemplary career in military service was capped by his highly
successful and universally admired performance as Commander in Chief of United
States Forces in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, widely recognized as
among the best planned and most ably executed operations in our military
history; and
WHEREAS,
our nation's highest debt of gratitude is always owed to the heroic men and
women who serve in our military, and no one has done more to earn that gratitude
than General Schwarzkopf.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY that this body hereby
recognizes General H. Norman Schwarzkopf and expresses to him its most sincere
thanks for his lifetime of service to his nation and his people.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to General H. Norman
Schwarzkopf.
