A RESOLUTION

Commending Lieutenant Colonel Twala Denise Mathis; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Twala Denise Mathis, a native of Georgia, has devoted her career to serving her country, earning the immense respect and admiration of her military colleagues during her 20 years of service; and

WHEREAS, a 1984 graduate of Monroe High School, she received a Bachelor of Science from Albany State College in Albany, Georgia, in 1988 and a Master of Science from Webster University in 1991; and

WHEREAS, after being commissioned from the Reserve Officer Training Candidate Program as a Distinguished Military Graduate, she began her career as a military intelligence officer in 1988; and

WHEREAS, since that time, Lt. Col. Mathis has had many prominent posts, including service as an intelligence officer, platoon leader, battalion logistics officer, and counterintelligence officer, in a variety of locales in North Carolina, Georgia, and South Korea; and

WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Mathis has also served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia and Operation Enduring Freedom in Kuwait; and

WHEREAS, during the course of her illustrious career, she has received numerous awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, and Parachutist and Air Assault badges; and

WHEREAS, she recently served as the Atlanta Recruiting Battalion Executive Officer, is currently serving as the 2nd Recruiting Brigade Operations Officer, and has been selected to assume command of a Recruiting Battalion in June, 2006; and

WHEREAS, all Americans owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Lt. Col. Mathis for her extraordinary service to this nation, and it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to pay tribute to the outstanding contributions of this exceptional Georgian.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join to commend Lieutenant Colonel Twala Denise Mathis on her exemplary service in our country's military and to thank her for her invaluable contributions to Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Lieutenant Colonel Twala Denise Mathis.
