A
RESOLUTION
Commending
Mr. Eddie McCarty and the Albany Area Arts Council and encouraging continued
support of the council; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
since its inception, the Albany Area Arts Council has made vast contributions to
Georgia's cultural landscape; and
WHEREAS,
the council strives to enhance the arts in its community by soliciting community
support, raising and allocating funds, marketing the arts, reinforcing the
responsibilities of arts organizations to the community, marketing the arts, and
serving as a catalyst for cooperation among these organizations;
and
WHEREAS,
the member organizations of council include the Albany Chorale, Albany Civil
Rights Movement Museum at Old Mount Zion Church, Albany Museum of Art, Albany
Concert Association, Albany State University Department of Fine Arts, Albany
Symphony Orchestra, Darton College music, theatre, and art programs, Dougherty
County School System, Georgia Artists Guild of Albany, Ritz Theatre Cultural
Center, Theatre Albany, and Thronateeska Heritage Cultural Center;
and
WHEREAS,
the council offers administrative and technical assistance, publicity, and
fund-raising through its annual arts development drive, in addition to hosting
several art shows during the year; and
WHEREAS,
since 1982, director Eddie McCarty has been instrumental in the council's
ongoing success, providing his leadership, talent, and specialized knowledge in
carrying out the council's important community work; and
WHEREAS,
a 1974 graduate of Darton College and a 1976 graduate of the University of
Georgia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theater, Mr. McCarty personally
participates in local performing arts productions as an actor, choreographer,
and singer; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McCarty, a graduate of Leadership Albany Class of 2001, is one of his community's most distinguished citizens, where he is highly involved as an active member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the mayor's Blue Ribbon Committee; and

WHEREAS,
the invaluable efforts of the Albany Area Arts Council under the extraordinary
leadership of Mr. Eddie McCarty have greatly enriched the quality of life of
residents of its community.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join to
commend Mr. Eddie McCarty and the Albany Area Arts Council for their outstanding
contributions to the arts in Albany and in Georgia and to encourage continued
support in the important work of the council.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Eddie McCarty,
director of the Albany Area Arts Council.
