Senate Resolution 1210

A RESOLUTION

Expressing regret at the passing of Dr. Sykes E. "Si" Trieb; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on February 12, 2006, the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens with the passing of Dr. Sykes E. "Si" Trieb; and

WHEREAS, he was the youngest of five children, born on March 20, 1929, to the late Herman Xavier and Hedwig Kloepful Trieb; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Trieb was an Eagle Scout and played high school football in Kansas City; and

WHEREAS, he received a Bachelor of Science and a Masteŕs degree from Kansas State University, followed by a Ph.D. from Ohio State University in economics; and

WHEREAS, while bravely serving in the Army during the Korean War, he met and married his wife, Virginia, after a two-week courtship, which resulted in a loving 54-year marriage; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Trieb was on the faculty at Kansas State University before becoming a Bulldog and serving as the head of the Extension Marketing Department at the University of Georgia, where his expertise in helping businesses prosper led him to work on projects not only in Georgia and the United States, but also in Ukraine and Japan; and

WHEREAS, after retirement Dr. Trieb continued to be a working member of the Group 7 consulting team; and

WHEREAS, in addition to being an active member and Elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Athens, Georgia, he served for many years with great distinction as Secretary of the Clarke County Republican Committee and as a member of its executive committee; and
WHEREAS, he heavily invested his personal time, labor, talent, and finances, without complaint or regard for his own personal welfare, to further conservative causes for the betterment of citizens everywhere; and

WHEREAS, the passing of this great Georgian leaves an unfillable void in the hearts and lives of his family and friends who will miss his amazing energy, his great sense of civic responsibility, the meaning he gave to the words "American citizen," his phenomenal ability to make everyone he met feel special, his great example of faith in Christ, and most of all his love and support.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Dr. Sykes E. "Si" Trieb, a great man, citizen, Republican, and American.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Dr. Sykes E. "Si" Trieb.
