RESOLUTION
Commending
the Georgia Lottery Corporation on raising eight billion dollars for education;
and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Lottery Corporation (GLC) recently celebrated the transfer of the
eight-billionth dollar to the Lottery for Education Account; and
WHEREAS,
the people of Georgia created the Georgia Lottery to enhance educational
funding, and since 1993, over 930,000 students have attended college on
Georgiás
lottery-funded HOPE scholarship program and more than 715,000 four-year-olds
have received an early start to their education in
Georgiás
high quality lottery-funded Pre-K Program; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Lottery Corporation has continued to develop and implement
innovative marketing strategies to ensure that lottery games are fresh and
exciting for players, while maintaining its commitment to responsibility and
integrity; and
WHEREAS,
Georgia Lottery sales for Fiscal Year 2005 marked the highest lottery sales in
the history of the GLC - totaling more than $2.9 billion; and
WHEREAS,
an increase in revenues has allowed the lottery-funded HOPE and Pre-K programs
to provide educational opportunities to over a million Georgia
students.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body commends the Georgia
Lottery Corporation for reaching this significant milestone
achievement.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Georgia Lottery
Corporation President and CEO Margaret R. DeFrancisco.
