A RESOLUTION

Commending and recognizing Dianne Guy; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dianne Guy is currently serving as Director for the Polk County Department of Children Services and is retiring after 31 years of dedicated and faithful service to the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Dianne Guy began contributing to the social service needs of Polk County in 1971 as a social worker on the staff of Murphy-Harpst Children's home, formerly known as Ethel Harpst Home for Children and Youth; and

WHEREAS, in 1975 she began her career with the State of Georgia as a Child Protection Service worker with the Polk County Department of Family and Children Services; and

WHEREAS, Dianne Guy was then promoted to her current position as Director of the Polk County Department of Family and Children Services; and

WHEREAS, Dianne Guy attended Winthrop College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology, and she later attended West Georgia University where she earned a Master of Public Administration degree; and

WHEREAS, Dianne Guy is a member of Pi Alpha Alpha, the national honor society for Public Affairs and Administration, and Pi Sigma Alpha, the national Political Science honor society; and

WHEREAS, Dianne Guy serves and has served on numerous committees at the local, district, and state levels and has completed the Leadership Excellence Program developed by the Georgia Department of Human Resources; and

WHEREAS, Dianne Guy grew up in Chester, South Carolina where her mother, Madeline Morrow, taught Dianne about hard work and responsibility by serving as an excellent example of these traits; and

WHEREAS, Dianne was often reminded that she could accomplish anything if she tried and has certainly proven this maxim by her many accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Guy is an extremely gifted pianist and singer, and many have enjoyed her talents in the community through her church, community, and other civic organizations; and

WHEREAS, Dianne has served as pianist for the Cedartown Little Theater, is a former member of the Rome Chorus, and is currently a member of the Rockmart Chorus; and

WHEREAS, it is only proper and fitting that this talented, dedicated, and extraordinary individual should be recognized before this body.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend and recognize Dianne Guy for her outstanding leadership and contributions to Polk County and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit copies of this resolution to Ms. Dianne Guy.
