RESOLUTION
Commending
John Owen on becoming an Eagle Scout; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
John Owen of Boy Scout Troop 2003 has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, which was
awarded to him at an Eagle Court of Honor on February 25, 2006; and
WHEREAS,
only one scout out of 97 ever reaches this lofty level of achievement, and John
Owen has ably demonstrated his aptitude and competency in mastering the many
special skills taught through the Boy Scout program; and
WHEREAS,
on the road to obtaining this prestigious award, John Owen has earned an
impressive 45 merit badges and has provided invaluable service to his fellow
troop members as both an assistant and senior patrol leader and as a troop
guide; and
WHEREAS,
he has been a scout for seven years, during which he has received numerous
honors, including the Arrow of Light award and two religious awards in Cub
Scouts and earning all ranks in Boy Scouts; and
WHEREAS,
this remarkable young man, a sixth grader at White County Middle School, has
achieved many extraordinary accomplishments outside of scouting as well,
including earning a bronze medal in bowling at this year's Special Olympics
Games, and is very active as a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church's Awana Club
and in the choir at his church and chorus at school; and
WHEREAS,
John Owen has truly exhibited a commitment to the scouting principles of honesty
and fairness and has consistently conducted himself in a manner becoming of an
Eagle Scout; and
WHEREAS,
in a world which all too often seems to dwell on the negative aspects of the
actions of our youth, it is especially fitting and proper for this body to
recognize the outstanding accomplishments of this extraordinary young
man.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
John Owen for his diligence and dedication in pursuing the highest honor awarded
by the Boy Scouts of America and congratulate him on attaining the prestigious
rank of Eagle Scout.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to John Owen.
