A RESOLUTION

Commemorating and recognizing the achievements of the Southwest DeKalb High School students taking the advanced placement United States History Exam; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, in a time when accountability in the education of the students in Georgia's schools has become a priority, Southwest DeKalb High School in Decatur, Georgia, has risen up and met the challenge; and

WHEREAS, for the second consecutive year Southwest DeKalb High School has been recognized by the College Board as having an exemplary advanced placement United States History Program; and

WHEREAS, Southwest DeKalb High School is one of the two magnet high schools in the DeKalb County School System and the only public high school to receive this recognition; and

WHEREAS, Southwest DeKalb High School was also recognized for having the largest African-American student population worldwide to have scored a three or better on the advanced placement United States History Exam; and

WHEREAS, the advanced placement United States History students of Southwest DeKalb High School and their families; Principal John Prince; advanced placement United States History teachers James Bailey and Raymond Maple; and Superintendent of DeKalb County Schools Crawford Lewis all deserve to be recognized and congratulated for this fine achievement.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commemorate and recognize the advanced placement United States History students of Southwest DeKalb High School in Decatur, Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Southwest DeKalb High School.
