Senate Resolution 1077

A RESOLUTION

Creating the Senate Study Committee on the Licensure of Personal Fitness Trainers; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, personal fitness training is a growing industry in the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, this industry is largely unregulated by the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that there is created the Senate Study Committee on the Licensure of Personal Fitness Trainers to be composed of three members of the Senate to be appointed by the Committee on Assignments. The Committee on Assignments shall designate a member who shall serve as chairperson of the committee. The committee shall meet at the call of the chairperson. The chairperson shall be authorized to establish an advisory committee to conduct an in-depth examination into the issue of the regulation of personal fitness trainers. The chairperson shall be authorized to appoint a chairperson of the advisory committee and at least, but not limited to, four additional members to the advisory committee which shall include a personal fitness trainer and representatives of a commercial health club, a community health and wellness center, and a corporate wellness program.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the committee shall undertake a study of the issues mentioned above and any other issues related thereto and recommend any actions or legislation which the committee deems necessary or appropriate. The committee may conduct such meetings at such places and at such times as it may deem necessary or convenient to enable it to exercise fully and effectively its powers, perform its duties, and accomplish the objectives and purposes of this resolution. The members of the committee shall receive the allowances authorized for legislative members of interim legislative committees but shall receive the same for not more than five days unless additional days are authorized. The members of any advisory committee shall serve without compensation. The funds necessary to carry out the provisions of this resolution shall come from the funds appropriated to the Senate. In the event the committee makes a report of its findings and recommendations, with suggestions for proposed legislation, if any, such report shall be made on or before December 31, 2007. The committee and any advisory committee shall stand abolished on December 31, 2007.
