RESOLUTION
Commending
Mr. Claude E. Bird, Jr., for his service to the Boy Scouts of America; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
for over 60 years, Mr. Claude E. Bird, Jr., has been one of the Boy Scouts of
America's most involved and loyal members; and
WHEREAS,
he was a Boy Scout as a youth before serving his country honorably as a member
of the United States military; and
WHEREAS,
from 1946 to 1969, Mr. Bird served as an adult leader in various positions,
including scoutmaster of Troop 472 in Baxley, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
since that time, he has continued his faithful service to the Boy Scouts as an
assistant scoutmaster, committee chairman, and scouting coordinator for the
First United Methodist Church in Baxley; he has also served as district chairman
for the Altamaha District as well as a member of the executive board of the
Okefenokee Area Council; and
WHEREAS,
in recognition of his devotion to scouting, he has received numerous accolades,
including the Silver Beaver Award in 1971, the God and Service recognition
through the First United Methodist Church, and the Order of the Arrow Vigil
Honor in 1993; and
WHEREAS,
on March 14, 2006, he will be honored at the Golden Eagle Dinner of the Satilla
District of the Okefenokee Area Council; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Bird's leadership, integrity, and love of God and country embody the noble
ideals of the Boy Scouts of America and have been a shining example to countless
young men over the course of his many years of outstanding service.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Mr. Claude E. Bird, Jr., for his more than 60 years of extraordinary service to
the Boy Scouts of America.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Claude E. Bird, Jr.
