RESOLUTION
Commending
Southwest DeKalb High School's Advanced Placement United States History
students; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the College Board's Equity Policy states that "...all students deserve an
opportunity to participate in rigorous and academically challenging courses and
programs," such as advanced placement courses; and
WHEREAS,
Southwest DeKalb High School was recognized by the College Board for two
consecutive years as having an exemplary advanced placement United States
history program; and
WHEREAS,
Southwest DeKalb High School is Georgia's only public high school to earn this
prestigious recognition; and
WHEREAS,
the school has also earned distinction as having the largest African American
student population to have scored a three or better on the Advanced Placement
United States History exam in the world; and
WHEREAS,
Principal John Prince, Advanced Placement United States History teachers James
Bailey and Raymond Maple, the faculty, staff, and student body of Southwest
DeKalb High School, along with Superintendent Crawford Lewis and the DeKalb
Board of Education, deserve to be very proud of this exceptional
success.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join
together to commend Southwest DeKalb High School students and faculty for their
Advance Placement United States History program's extraordinary achievements and
distinctions.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Southwest DeKalb High
School's Advanced Placement United States History program.
