RESOLUTION
Commending
Piedmont Healthcare and congratulating it on its 100th anniversary; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
in 2005, Piedmont Hospital celebrated 100 years of service as one of the leading
hospitals in the country, beginning its legacy in 1905 as a ten-bed sanatorium
in a home-turned-hospital across from the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium;
and
WHEREAS,
Piedmont Hospital's tradition of excellence continues today as part of Piedmont
Healthcare, which operates three hospitals, Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta,
Piedmont Fayette Hospital, and Piedmont Mountainside in Pickens County;
and
WHEREAS,
Piedmont Healthcare has received numerous accolades for its commitment to
quality, and Piedmont Hospital and Piedmont Fayette Hospital were the only two
hospitals in Georgia to be named as one of the nation's
100 Top
Hospitals by the health care information
company Solucient and among the Most Wired U.S. hospitals in the 2004 and 2005
"Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study"; and
WHEREAS,
in all of its facilities, Piedmont Healthcare provides outstanding medical
services, particularly in cardiovascular care, women's services, oncology,
orthopedics, neuroscience, and kidney, pancreas, and liver transplants, using
state-of-the-art technology with the highest caliber of professionalism;
and
WHEREAS,
Piedmont Healthcare employs almost 5,000 employees and its economic contribution
is approximately $2 billion annually; and
WHEREAS,
in 2005, Piedmont began the Center for Health and Learning in partnership with
Mercer University to help address the health professional shortage;
and
WHEREAS, throughout its 100 year history, Piedmont Healthcare has treated countless patients with the utmost dedication and compassion, and Georgians are very fortunate to have such a world-class health care system operating in this state.
WHEREAS, throughout its 100 year history, Piedmont Healthcare has treated countless patients with the utmost dedication and compassion, and Georgians are very fortunate to have such a world-class health care system operating in this state.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
commending Piedmont Healthcare for its many contributions to the health care of
Georgia's citizens and in congratulating this remarkable institution on reaching
its 100th anniversary.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Mr. R. Timothy Stack,
President and CEO of Piedmont Healthcare; Mr. Robert W. Maynard, President and
CEO of Piedmont Hospital; Mr. W. Darrell Cutts, President and CEO of Piedmont
Fayette Hospital; and Mr. Edward R. Lovern, President and CEO of Piedmont
Mountainside.
