BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Part 2 of Article 2 of Chapter 3 of Title 20 of the Official Code of
Georgia Annotated, relating to the University System of Georgia, so as to
provide that students who have completed a home study program who apply for
admission to member institutions of the University System of Georgia as an
undergraduate student and who meet certain criteria shall be considered for
admission under the same basis; to authorize the board of regents to promulgate
rules and regulations regarding such admissions; to provide for related matters;
to provide an effective date; to provide for applicability; to repeal
conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Part
2 of Article 2 of Chapter 3 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia
Annotated, relating to the University System of Georgia, is amended by inserting
a new Code section to read as follows:
"20-3-66.1.
(a)
A member institution of the University System of Georgia shall consider for
admission an applicant to the institution as an undergraduate student on the
same basis as any other student if the applicant has completed a home study
program and meets the residency requirements of the board of regents and
if:
(1)
The
applicant́s
scores on one or more nationally recognized admissions tests are commensurate
with those of entering freshmen in the institution; and
(2)
The
applicant́s
scores on the
institutiońs
entrance or placement examinations would allow the student to be placed in
freshman-level, nonremedial classes.
(b)
The board of regents is authorized to adopt rules and regulations relating to
the operation of admissions programs under this Code
section."
SECTION
2.
This
Act shall become effective on July 1, 2006, and shall apply to all applicants on
and after that date.
SECTION
3.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
