RESOLUTION
Honoring
Christine Lowe Glass; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Christine Lowe Glass is the second of eight children born to the late K.C. and
Thelma Lee Jackson Lowe; and
WHEREAS,
she was educated in the Atlanta Public School System, attended E.P. Johnson
Elementary School, David T. Howard High School, Booker T. Washington High
School, and Carver Vocational High School where at age 16 she was Salutatorian
of her graduating class in 1951; and
WHEREAS,
she married Charles Howard Glass in 1952 and raised a loving family which
consists of three daughters, Mrs. Patricia J. Knowles, Mrs. Thelma Lee Rudd, and
Mrs. Sharon Y. Jamison; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren;
and
WHEREAS,
she found her calling in 1970 when she diagnosed with a serious illness and
learned of the state agency, Vocational Rehabilitation, that later became a very
important part of her life; and
WHEREAS,
Vocational Rehabilitation sent her to DeKalb Tech from which she graduated a top
student in 1972 and began her employment with the state agency two months later;
and
WHEREAS,
she continued to do miraculous work for Vocational Rehabilitation until her
retirement in 1996; and
WHEREAS,
during her tenure with Vocational Rehabilitation, she received many awards and
accolades in community service including The Merritt Award from Mayor Maynard
Jackson and the Award of Appreciation from Mayor Bill Campbell; and
WHEREAS,
she served as president of the Board of Directors for JKF-EOA in the late
1970's, has been a member of NAACP since 1986, and while working with Vocational
Rehabilitation she was a member of Metropolitan Atlanta Mental Health
Association and worked with Atlanta Homeless Task Force; and
WHEREAS,
she is presently a member of Smooth Ashlar Grand Lodge, Free and Accepted
Ancient York Rite Masons where she is a past Most Worthy Matron for Pride of
Tiller, Chapter 44, Order of the Eastern Star; Friendly Daughters, Court #570,
Heroines of Jericho; Mary Magdalene Council 11, Crusaders; Azalea Court #1,
Amaranths and Arabia Court #1, Daughters of Isis where she served as a Past
Illustrious Commandress, Past Illustrious Grand Commandress, Arabia Grand Court,
Daughters of Isis; and Past Grand Education Committee Chairperson;
and
WHEREAS,
she has also served on the national level as Past Oriental Guide for National
Imperial Court, Daughters of Isis, and Education Fund Raiser for National
Imperial Chapter of Order of Eastern Star; and
WHEREAS,
this delightful woman enjoys sewing, quilting, and crocheting items for her
children and grandchildren, as well as teaching anyone wishing to learn to
crochet and sew; and
WHEREAS,
she takes great pleasure in teaching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren
how to cook and imparting to them stories and lessons of yesteryear;
and
WHEREAS,
it is important to her that her offspring know of their heritage and how Atlanta
and the world has changed, yet remained the same; and
WHEREAS,
she has given several presentations on the history of the Underground Railroad
in quilts, hoping to instill in others the valuable teachings of her parents and
the importance of knowing where you came from so you can know where you are
going; and
WHEREAS,
she has traveled extensively throughout the United States and has visited many
places abroad including Ghana, Ashanti, and many other villages in West Africa;
Mexico, Paris, Switzerland, Canada, and the Bahamas; and
WHEREAS,
even though she is busy enjoying life as a senior citizen in her 70's, she still
finds the time to help her family, friends, neighbors, community, and many
others wherever and however needed;
and
WHEREAS, Christine Lowe Glass is a rare and extraordinary individual who has dedicated her life to serving her community and who has truly made a difference in the lives of countless numbers of citizens throughout this state, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members join
in honoring the life and achievements of Christine Lowe Glass and commend her
many years of service to her community and to the citizens of the State of
Georgia.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Christine
Lowe Glass.
