A RESOLUTION

Recognizing Trooper First Class David Q. Holland III, Peace Officer of the Year for Valor, commending his outstanding performance, and inviting him to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Trooper First Class David Q. Holland III has been named Officer of the Year for Valor by the Peace Officers Association of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, TFC Holland was on regular patrol in Emanuel County when he heard that a suspect was fleeing a sheriff's deputy in the early hours of August 30, 2003, and joined the pursuit; and

WHEREAS, taking the lead in the pursuit, TFC Holland made several attempts to end the chase, but the suspect repeatedly rammed TFC Holland́s vehicle, checking each of the trooper's efforts; and

WHEREAS, realizing the danger to other motorists, TFC Holland maneuvered his unit in front of the suspect in an attempt to slow the vehicle and was rammed several times but was ultimately able to end the pursuit through execution of the pursuit intervention technique maneuver; and

WHEREAS, when the armed suspect threatened TFC Holland and Officer Alford, TFC Holland was forced to act defensively, shooting the suspect twice, after which he secured the suspect́s weapon and monitored his condition until medical assistance arrived; and

WHEREAS, he unselfishly put his life on the line to assist and protect a fellow law enforcement officer and to ensure the safety of the public, and his high personal standards and steady resolve have brought honor to all who valiantly serve in law enforcement.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in recognizing and commending Trooper First Class David Q. Holland III on being chosen Officer of the Year for Valor by the Peace Officers Association of Georgia and extend their sincere gratitude for his courageous service to the citizens of the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Trooper First Class David Q. Holland III is invited to the House of Representatives for purposes of being recognized by the House and receiving an appropriate copy of this resolution at a date and time to be fixed by the Speaker of the House.
