RESOLUTION
Honoring
Gideons Elementary School; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Gideons Elementary School is singularly dedicated to the goal of educating
children, and its accomplishments toward that goal are many and worthy of
tribute; and
WHEREAS,
the principal of Gideons Elementary School for 24 years, Armstead Salters, and
the talented staff and faculty who have contributed to the
schooĺs
outstanding achievements are influencing the course of our history through their
dedication to our
childreńs
future; and
WHEREAS,
Gideons Elementary School was recognized by
Georgiás
Superintendent of Education Kathy Cox for the
schooĺs
excellent performance in the 2005 Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests;
and
WHEREAS,
the third graders of Gideons Elementary School showed a 13.7 percent increase in
their math scores and a 3.1 percent increase in their reading scores; while the
fifth graders had a 6.6 percent increase in reading scores; and
WHEREAS,
Gideons is located in
Atlantás
historic Pittsburgh community near the Atlanta University Center and the student
body is made up of approximately 503 students; and
WHEREAS,
the administration, staff, and faculty have high expectations for each and every
student, truly demonstrating that no child should be left behind and teaching by
the
schooĺs
motto "open hearts, open arms, and an open door, for every student is
valued."
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body honors
Gideons Elementary School for its outstanding achievements and contributions to
the State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Gideons
Elementary School and Principal Armstead Salters.
