A
RESOLUTION
Urging
the United States Congress to support additional funding for development of
commuter rail service in the State of Georgia; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia experienced substantial growth both in population and
employment during the past decade; and
WHEREAS,
this continues in our state and is daily increasing the strain placed upon our
existing transportation infrastructure; and
WHEREAS,
this continued economic vitality is, in part, dependent upon the transportation
infrastructure being capable of citizen mobility; and
WHEREAS,
the importance of the implementation of an alternative to the single-occupancy
vehicle as a form of transportation is becoming a needed part of our
infrastructure; and
WHEREAS,
commuter rail service will not only serve to ease the traffic congestion in
metropolitan areas by providing reliable alternative transportation but will
also benefit the cities it serves by supporting new economic development in
those communities.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body urges
the United States Congress to support additional funding for the development of
commuter rail service in this state, including, but not limited to, the
utilization of motor fuel tax revenues.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to each member
of the Georgia Congressional Delegation.
