A RESOLUTION

Saluting the microenterprise industry and the Georgia Micro Enterprise Network and welcoming the Association for Enterprise Opportunity 2006 annual conference to Atlanta; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, small businesses comprise more than 53 percent of the nation's economic engine, particularly the smallest of businesses, with ten employees or less, posting a net gain of more than 2.6 million jobs in recent years; and

WHEREAS, microenterprise economics embrace economic development strategies, human development, and alleviation of poverty; and

WHEREAS, microenterprises are well documented as entities that create jobs, generate income, build assets, and enhance interpersonal economic skills among its owners and their employees; and

WHEREAS, significant economic and social benefits outweigh the public investments in microenterprise ventures as entrepreneurs turn aspirations into actions as business men and women can access nontraditional capital resources and critical technical assistance; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Micro Enterprise Network (GMEN) is approaching its 20th year as a nonprofit organization dedicated to making a difference in the economy of Georgians; and

WHEREAS, GMEN is assisting in hosting the annual conference of the Association for Enterprise Opportunity May 16-19, 2006, in Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, the annual conference celebrates the visions of microenterprise success with workshops and networking venues to strengthen new and expanding small businesses; and
WHEREAS, Georgia welcomes the national membership of the Association for Enterprise Opportunity to Georgia as a showcase for microenterprise ventures and as a national model for economic self-sufficiency.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body salutes the microenterprise industry and the Georgia Micro Enterprise Network and welcomes the Association for Enterprise Opportunity annual conference to Atlanta, Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the Association for Enterprise Opportunity and the Georgia Micro Enterprise Network.
