RESOLUTION
Commending
Mr. Henry M. Huckaby on his public service and congratulating him on the
occasion of his retirement; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Henry M. "Hank" Huckaby has consistently served the public with distinction
during the course of his nearly 40 year career with the State of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Huckaby worked in state government for 22 years, which included service as
the founding director of the Senate Research Office, the commissioner of the
Georgia Department of Community Affairs under Governor George Busbee, and the
executive director of the Georgia Housing and Finance Authority under Governor
Joe Frank Harris; and
WHEREAS,
for five years, Mr. Huckaby served as the director of the Office of Planning and
Budget, the highest financial position in state government, under Governor Zell
Miller; and
WHEREAS,
most recently, Mr. Huckaby has devoted his talents to serving the University of
Georgia, beginning with a three-year term as director of the university's Carl
Vinson Institute of Government; and
WHEREAS,
since 2000, he served as the University of Georgia's senior vice president for
finance and administration, where he has overseen all business operations at the
university, as well as being responsible for the school's physical plant,
auxiliary and administrative services, facility planning, and environmental
safety; and
WHEREAS,
so respected is he for his leadership that in 2002, then governor-elect Sonny
Perdue appointed him to his transition team and later as interim chief financial
officer; throughout his eight months of service to the Governor, Mr. Huckaby
ably juggled his dual roles before returning full time to his duties at the
University of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Huckaby will retire June 30, 2006, bringing to a close an illustrious
career; and
WHEREAS,
thanks to his integrity, vision, and determination, Mr. Huckaby's nearly four
decades of public service has made Georgia a better place, and he will be sorely
missed by his many friends and colleagues at the University of
Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body congratulate Mr. Henry M. Huckaby on the occasion of his retirement,
thank him for his many years of exemplary service to the state, and hope his
well deserved retirement years will be enjoyable and enriching for him and his
family.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Henry M.
"Hank" Huckaby.
