A RESOLUTION

Urging that the future NASCAR Hall of Fame and museum be located in Atlanta, Georgia; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, NASCAR is one of the most popular and successful sports in America and has delighted its fans with 56 years of spectacular competition; and

WHEREAS, the drivers, crews, and owners, whose untiring work, determination, hard won victories, and disappointing defeats make up the stories and legends that are the history of this great sport, deserve nothing less than a world-class Hall of Fame that honors their contributions to the world of sports and entertainment; and

WHEREAS, the opportunity to host the future NASCAR Hall of Fame has filled the citizens of Atlanta and the State of Georgia with great enthusiasm and the dedication needed to build a lasting memorial to the giants of NASCAR that will remain a fitting tribute to their legacies in the years to come; and

WHEREAS, with a booming metropolitan market size of more than four million, its modern and convenient convention centers, its international airport, and the many successful attractions already located in its downtown area, the City of Atlanta offers the ability to reach millions of visitors, conventioneers, and race fans; and

WHEREAS, this city has a proven track record of attracting and hosting sporting events on a local, regional, national, and international level; and

WHEREAS, the Atlanta market is home to the Nextel Cup, Busch, and Craftsman sponsors as well as countless racing fans and boasts an incredibly diverse fan base eager to support this historic project; and

WHEREAS, the City of Atlanta and the State of Georgia would take great pride in the opportunity to host an impressive and dynamic NASCAR Hall of Fame.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body urge that Atlanta, Georgia, be the future home of the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing, Inc.
