A RESOLUTION

Commending the University of Georgia Gymnastics Team on winning the 2005 NCAA National Championship and inviting its coaches and members to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the University of Georgia "Gym Dogs" Gymnastics Team has won its program's sixth NCAA National Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Gym Dogs' extraordinary performance at the 2005 NCAA National Championship marked the seventeenth time in the last 19 years that the team has finished in the top three at the NCAA Championships; and

WHEREAS, the Gym Dogs also have won their program's fourteenth SEC Championship, the twelfth such win in the last 15 years; and

WHEREAS, among the Gym Dogs' outstanding athletes was Katie Heenan, a freshman who won the SEC All-Around and Balance Beam titles as well as four All-American awards; teammates Brittany Smith, Kelsey Ericksen, Ashley Kupets, Nikki Childs, and Michelle Emmons were also named All-Americans, and seven Gym Dogs were named to the SEC Honor Roll; and

WHEREAS, the team was led to victory by Head Coach Suzanne Yoculan, who eclipsed her 700-win mark in her twenty-second year at the University of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, thanks to their hard work and dedication to excellence, the Gym Dogs have brought great honor to their school and state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in commending the University of Georgia Gymnastics Team on winning the 2005 NCAA National Championship and congratulate the team's coaches and members on their outstanding athletic achievements.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the coaches and members of the University of Georgia Gymnastics Team are invited to the House of Representatives for purposes of being recognized by the House and receiving appropriate copies of this resolution at a date and time to be fixed by the Speaker of the House.
