RESOLUTION
Commending
Georgia High School/High Tech and inviting its members to appear before the
House of Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
an educated citizenry is the foundation of democracy; and
WHEREAS,
profound economic and technological changes in our society have rapidly altered
the structure and nature of work, thereby requiring innovative approaches to
prepare students for the 21st century workplace; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia State Rehabilitation Council, in partnership with the Georgia
Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities, initiated Georgia High
School/High Tech, a state-wide enrichment program that empowers high school
students with disabilities to enter technological fields, reduces the dropout
rate, and facilitates a successful transition to postsecondary education or
gainful employment; and
WHEREAS,
with the support of the Georgia Department of Labor and a community based
partnership of business, education and government agencies, rehabilitation
professionals, students, and families, Georgia High School/High Tech provides
leadership training, skills training, mentoring, job shadowing, internships,
site visits to businesses, universities, and technical colleges, as well as
special events, to enable each participant to graduate from high school and
successfully transition either to postsecondary education or to employment in
the career of his or her choice; and
WHEREAS,
since its inception, Georgia High School/High Tech has established programs that
have provided opportunities for approximately 3,000 students with disabilities
to continue their education and pursue meaningful careers.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in commending Georgia High School/High Tech for its important
work and in commending Georgia High School/High Tech students for their many
outstanding accomplishments.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of Georgia High School/High Tech are
invited to appear before the House of Representatives for purposes of being
recognized by the House and receiving an appropriate copy of this resolution at
a date and time to be fixed by the Speaker of the House.
