A RESOLUTION

Commending and congratulating the Valdosta State University Football Team; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the 2004 Valdosta State University Football Team amassed an outstanding regular season record of nine wins and one loss and won the Gulf South Conference Championship for the fourth time in the last five years; and

WHEREAS, the Blazers won four consecutive playoff games and, in front of the crowd in Florence, Alabama, and a national television audience looking on at home, sealed a 36-31 victory over top-ranked Pittsburg State in the national championship game; and

WHEREAS, Valdosta State's dedicated head coach, Chris Hatcher, was named Division II national football coach of the year for leading this team to the national championship; and

WHEREAS, these accomplishments were the culmination of a season of hard work, exemplary sportsmanship, and exceptional teamwork among a group of highly talented and dedicated athletes; and

WHEREAS, their hard work and commitment to their team and their sport have set a fine example of sportsmanship for all young athletes in the State of Georgia and will be honored at the capitol on February 15, 2005.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in commending and congratulating the Valdosta State University Football Team, 2004 Gulf South Conference Champions, and Head Coach Chris Hatcher for their outstanding performance during this exciting and memorable season.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Chris Hatcher, Head Coach of the Valdosta State University Football Team.
