A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Boy Scout Troop 383 and inviting the leaders and members of the troop to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 383 was chartered in 1996 and has, since that time, enrolled a total of 62 boys in its program; and

WHEREAS, since its inception, 62 boys have attained Scout Badges, 36 have attained Tenderfoot, 31 have attained 2nd Class, 26 have attained 1st Class, 23 have attained Star, 21 have attained Life, and 15 have attained Eagle Scout; and

WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 383 has earned the Quality Unit Award in each of its nine years of existence; and

WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 383 scouts were chosen Scout of the Year at the district level in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004; and

WHEREAS, the National Boy Scout Honor Society, the Order of the Arrow, has recognized 19 members of Boy Scout Troop 383 and ten of these members advanced to the level of Brotherhood members. In addition, seven of the adult leaders are members of the Order of the Arrow and three of them are also Brotherhood members; and

WHEREAS, ten scouts and six leaders have become PADI scuba certified divers through the scout program; and

WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 383 has been awarded 14 presidential ribbons, 13 blue ribbons, and 4 red ribbons at district and council camporees and 2 national camping awards, and five leaders have been awarded district awards of merit and one leader has been awarded the national Silver Beaver Award; and

WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 383 has hiked 497 miles, performed 1992 hours of community service in over 100 service projects, spent 259 days camping, canoed 203 miles, and undertaken 23 dives; and

WHEREAS, this outstanding organization has established standards of excellence which have brought honor on the troop and the members and leaders and their families and is worthy of emulation; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to recognize and commend the exemplary leadership, dedication, and hard work by the members and leaders of this superb scout troop.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Boy Scout Troop 383 for its achievements and hard work and extend best wishes for continued success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Boy Scout Troop 383 is invited to appear before the House of Representatives at a date and time to be fixed by the Speaker of the House.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Boy Scout Troop 383.
