RESOLUTION
Honoring
and remembering Robert "Buzz" Powell; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Robert "Buzz" Powell was a responsible citizen whose actions were marked by
his love for family, community, and country and whose friendship will be missed
by many; and
WHEREAS,
he supported and defended the democratic principles on which this country was
founded, serving honorably and bravely in the United States Navy;
and
WHEREAS,
he pursued a degree from Atlanta Law School and used this knowledge to benefit
the citizens of his community and the State of Georgia throughout his life, and
particularly in his role as an activist in the Republican Party since 1960;
and
WHEREAS,
he demonstrated responsible and intelligent leadership in DeKalb County as a
member of the DeKalb County Board of Elections and was a dedicated worker for
the Republican Party, serving as an alternate delegate to the 2000 National
Republican Convention, precinct leader and delegate to numerous state Republican
conventions, and chairman of the 41st Senate District of the Republican Party
from 1981-1983; and
WHEREAS,
he used his years very well as a faithful husband to Beverly Powell, his loving
wife of 46 years; a beloved father to his son Michael and daughter Lee Ann; and
a devoted grandfather to his five grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
he leaves behind a wealth of family and friends who will remember him as a
successful and admired business owner and leader in the community, loyal friend,
dependable worker, and patriotic American.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in remembering and honoring Robert "Buzz" Powell for his
dedication to his community, his state, and his country and express their
sincere appreciation for his commitment to the democratic principles that are
the foundation of the United States of America.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mr. Robert "Buzz" Powell.
