BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend an Act creating a new charter for the City of Hamilton, approved March 10,
1964 (Ga. L. 1964, p. 2601), as amended, so as to provide for the filling of
vacancies in the offices of the mayor or councilmen; to provide for related
matters; to provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other
purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
An
Act creating a new charter for the City of Hamilton, approved March 10, 1964
(Ga. L. 1964, p. 2601), as amended, is amended by striking Section 11 in its
entirety and inserting in lieu thereof a new Section 11 to read as
follows:
"Section
11. Be it further enacted that in the event that the office of mayor or any
other councilman shall become vacant by death, removal, or otherwise, a majority
of the councilmen shall appoint a person to fill such vacancy until the time of
the next election for the vacated
seat."
SECTION
2.
This
Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its
becoming law without such approval.
SECTION
3.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
