A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

To amend Chapter 5 of Title 35 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, the "Georgia Public Safety Training Center Act," so as to authorize the use of the facilities of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center by retired law enforcement officers for meeting the statés standards for training and qualification to carry firearms; to provide for certification; to require reimbursement of the center for costs; to provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Chapter 5 of Title 35 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, the "Georgia Public Safety Training Center Act," is amended by inserting a new Code section to be designated Code Section 35-5-8 to read as follows:
"35-5-8.
(a) Subject to such rules and regulations as shall be prescribed by the board, the facilities of the center may be made available to retired law enforcement officers of the state for the purposes of meeting the statés standards for training and qualification for active law enforcement officers to carry firearms and thus meeting the criteria for qualified law enforcement officers in accordance with 18 U.S.C.A. Section 926C. The center is authorized to issue to any retired law enforcement officer who meets such standards a certification that complies with 18 U.S.C.A. Section 926C.
(b) Any retired law enforcement officer who uses the facilities of the center in accordance with subsection (a) of this Code section shall be required to reimburse the center for the cost of such training, testing, and certification."

SECTION 2.
This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2005.

SECTION 3.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
