Senator
Zamarripa of the 36th offered the following amendment:
Amend
the Senate State and Local Governmental Operations Committee substitute to HB
244 by inserting immediately following "registration;" on line 1 of page 2 the
following:
"to
provide for election day
registration;".
By
inserting between lines 27 and 28 on page 21 a new Section 25A to read as
follows:
"SECTION
25A.
Said
chapter is further amended by inserting at the end of Code Section 21-2-224,
relating to official list of electors, a new subsection (j) to read as
follows:
'(j)
An individual who is eligible to vote may register on election day by appearing
in person at the polling place for the precinct in which the individual
maintains residence, by completing a registration application, making an oath in
the form prescribed by the Secretary of State, and providing proof of residence.
An individual may prove residence for purposes of registering by presenting any
of the proper identification items authorized by Code Section 21-2-417. The
governing authority of a county, school district, or municipality may require
that a poll officer responsible for election day registration initial each
completed registration
application.'"
