House Committee on Motor Vehicles offers the following substitute to HB
161:

BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Article 2 of Chapter 5 of Title 40 of the Official Code of Georgia
Annotated, relating to issuance, expiration, and renewal of
driverś
licenses, so as to prohibit any
driveŕs
license or permit from containing the social security number of the licensee or
permit holder, unless specifically requested; to provide an effective date; to
repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Article
2 of Chapter 5 of Title 40 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating
to issuance, expiration, and renewal of
driverś
licenses, is amended by striking Code Section 40-5-28.1, relating to use of
social security numbers on
driverś
licenses, and inserting in its place a new Code Section 40-5-28.1 to read as
follows:
∀40-5-28.1.
No
license or permit issued or renewed on or after
July 1,
1997
January 1,
2007, pursuant to this article shall
contain the social security number of the licensee or permit holder unless such
person specifically requests the use of such
number.∀
SECTION
2.
This
Act shall become effective on January 1, 2007.
SECTION
3.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
