BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend an Act providing for the election of the members of the board of education
of Burke County, approved March 27, 1985 (Ga. L. 1985, p. 4481), as amended,
particularly by an Act approved April 6, 1996 (Ga. L. 1996, p. 3944), so as to
change certain provisions regarding the compensation and expense allowance of
the members of the board; to provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting
laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
An
Act providing for the election of the members of the board of education of Burke
County, approved March 27, 1985 (Ga. L. 1985, p. 4481), as amended, particularly
by an Act approved April 6, 1996 (Ga. L. 1996, p. 3944), is amended by striking
in its entirety Section 5A and inserting in lieu thereof the
following:
"SECTION
5A.
(a)
The chairperson of the board of education shall receive a salary of $450.00 per
month payable from the funds of Burke County. Each member of the board of
education other than the chairperson shall receive a salary of $400.00 per month
payable from the funds of Burke County. In addition, the chairperson and each
member of the board of education shall be reimbursed for actual expenses
incurred in connection with the performance of their official duties as members
of the board for travel within or outside Burke County. All expenses shall be
approved and verified prior to reimbursement in such manner as may be specified
by the board.
(b)
The board of education is authorized to increase the amount of the
chairpersońs
salary in any amount not exceeding $200.00 per month. In no event shall the
chairpersońs
salary exceed $650.00 per month. The board of education is authorized to
increase the amount of each
membeŕs
salary other than the chairperson in any amount not exceeding $200.00 per month.
In no event shall the salary of any member other than the chairperson exceed
$600.00 per month. The board of education shall take no action to increase such
amounts until notice of intent to take such action and the fiscal impact of such
action has been published in a newspaper designated as the legal organ for the
county at least once a week for three consecutive weeks immediately preceding
the meeting at which the action is
taken."
SECTION
2.
This
Act shall become effective on July 1, 2008.
SECTION
3.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
