BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend an Act creating the State Court of Miller County, approved March 2, 1935
(Ga. L. 1935, p. 538), as amended, particularly by an Act approved March 18,
1986 (Ga. L. 1986, p. 3921), so as to change the compensation of the judge and
solicitor-general of said court; to provide for an effective date; to repeal
conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
An
Act creating the State Court of Miller County, approved March 2, 1935 (Ga. L.
1935, p. 538), as amended, particularly by an Act approved March 18, 1986 (Ga.
L. 1986, p. 3921), is amended by striking in its entirety subsection (a) of
Section 3 and inserting in lieu thereof the following:
"(a)
The solicitor-general of the State Court of Miller County shall receive for his
or her services an annual salary in an amount not less than $14,000.00 nor
greater than $18,000.00, as established by majority vote of a quorum of the
county governing authority, payable in equal monthly installments from the funds
of Miller
County."
SECTION
2.
Said
Act is further amended by striking in its entirety Section 34 and inserting in
lieu thereof the following:
"SECTION
34.
There
shall be a judge of said court who shall be elected by the qualified voters of
Miller County, Georgia, at the same time and under the same rules and
regulations as other county officers are now elected. The judge of said court
shall receive a salary in an amount not less than $16,000.00 nor greater than
$20,000.00, as established by majority vote of a quorum of the county governing
authority, payable in equal monthly installments from the funds of Miller
County, which salary shall not be diminished during the
judgés
term of office. The judge of said court shall serve for a term of office of
four years and until a successor is elected and qualified. It shall be the duty
of the governing authority of said county to make provisions annually for
levying taxes for the purpose of compensating the judge of said court. Said
judge shall receive no other compensation for his or her services but may
practice law in any of the courts of this state except the State Court of Miller
County."
SECTION
3.
This
Act shall become effective on January 1, 2007.
SECTION
4.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
