A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

To provide for the filling of vacancies in the office of sheriff of DeKalb County; to provide that the chief deputy shall discharge the duties of sheriff until such office is filled; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
When a vacancy in the office of sheriff of DeKalb County occurs, the chief deputy shall discharge the duties of sheriff until the vacancy is filled at the next special election; provided, however, that if it is not more than six months between the time such election can be called by the judge of the probate court and held and the expiration of the existing term, the chief deputy shall discharge the duties of the office for the balance of the term and there shall be no special election.

SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
