A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

To amend an Act providing for the election of the members of the board of education of Habersham County, approved March 5, 1976 (Ga. L. 1976, p. 2708), as amended, so as to change certain provisions regarding the compensation of the members of such board; to provide for the specific repeal of an amendatory Act thereto, an Act approved May 6, 2005 (Ga. L. 2005, p. 3969); to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
An Act providing for the election of the members of the board of education of Habersham County, approved March 5, 1976 (Ga. L. 1976, p. 2708), as amended, is amended by adding a new section immediately following Section 1 to be designated Section 1.1 to read as follows:

"SECTION 1.1
The board of education shall receive the per diem and expense reimbursement provided for under Code Section 20-2-55, as amended. The board of education is authorized to increase the amount of such per diem and expense reimbursement. The board of education shall take no action to increase such amounts until notice of intent to take such action and the fiscal impact of such action has been published in a newspaper designated as the legal organ for the county at least once a week for three consecutive weeks immediately preceding the meeting at which the action is taken. The authority provided to the board of education to increase such amounts under this section shall cease after December 31, 2006, but the members of the board shall continue to receive any such amounts which were increased pursuant to this section on or prior to December 31, 2006, until provided otherwise by local Act."

SECTION 2.
Said Act is further amended by repealing in its entirety an amendatory Act thereto, an Act approved May 6, 2005 (Ga. L. 2005, p. 3969).

SECTION 3.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
