BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Subpart 2 of Part 6 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official
Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to conditions of employment of certain
persons under the Quality Basic Education Act, so as to provide for the
establishment of the "Grants for Classroom Teachers Program"; to provide for the
establishment of rules and regulations for the program; to provide for maximum
salary supplement amounts; to provide for funding contingencies; to provide for
related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Subpart
2 of Part 6 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of
Georgia Annotated, relating to conditions of employment of certain persons under
the Quality Basic Education Act, is amended by inserting a new Code section to
be designated Code Section 20-2-214.1 to read as follows:

(a)
The State Board of Education is authorized and directed to establish the 'Grants
for Classroom Teachers Program' to provide salary supplements to certificated
personnel who serve directly in the classroom as public school teachers in this
state, subject to appropriations.
(b)
The State Board of Education shall establish rules and regulations for the
establishment and implementation of the program which shall provide, at a
minimum, that:
(1)
Classroom teachers in kindergarten through grade 6 who provide classroom
instruction for four hours or more shall be eligible for salary supplements
under this Code section; and
(2)
Classroom teachers in grades 7 through 12 who provide classroom instruction for
at least four, 50 minute segments per day shall be eligible for salary
supplements under this Code section.
(c)
Salary supplements provided pursuant to this Code section shall be for up to
$50.00 per instructional hour or segment per month for each eligible teacher, up
to a maximum of $300.00 per month.
(d)
The implementation of the program and amounts of salary supplements provided
pursuant to this Code section shall be contingent on appropriations by the
General Assembly for such
purposes.∀
SECTION
2.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
