ATLANTA (02/02/06)- By a vote of 35-20 Senate Resolution 655, known as the HOPE Chest Amendment, failed to recieve the required two-thirds majority in order to pass. Senate Leaders react: Sen. Joseph Carter (cut 3) Student Health and Fitness Act ATLANTA- State Senator Joseph Carter (R-Tifton) today introduced the Student Health and Fitness Act of 2006 during a press conference on the steps of the State Capitol, as many health care professionals, educators, administrators and students looked on. ATLANTA- In its first meeting of the 2006 session, the Senate Higher Education Committee convened to consider Senate Resolution 655, known as the HOPE Chest Amendment. The proposed constitutional amendment would reserve all lottery funds for certain educational purposes. The resolution specifically states that after all HOPE scholarship and Pre-K program commitments are honored, the remaining lottery revenue would go to education shortfall reserves. (01/25/06) Sen.
