After probably the most emotion charged debate yet this year the House passed House Bill 197 which was recommended by the House Health and Human Services Committee.

The bill requires that a woman seeking an abortion be told of the particular medical risks associated with the procedure.

The measure also requires a 24 hour waiting period from the time that a woman notifies a physician that she wants an abortion before the procedure is performed.

Additionally contained in House Bill 197 is a provision requiring parental notification when minors under 18 years old are seeking an abortion.

Under the bill women would also be provided information on alternatives to abortion including assistance organizations and local adoption programs.

Also adopted was a Master Teacher Program which aims to create an academic coaching program through which truly excellent teachers can lend their expertise to their colleagues.
