Monday, March 21, 2005 Legislative Day # 35 A dozen bills saw action yesterday and ranged from extending the prohibition on taking sponge crabs to revising regulations governing recreational vehicle dealers. In a unanimous vote the House gave approval to a Senate Bill creating a HERO Scholarship which will help members of the Georgia National Guard and their children further their education. Those eligible may obtain two thousand dollars a year for college for up to four years totaling eight thousand dollars. Other legislation included prohibiting crooked pyramid promotional schemes. While penalties were established to crack down on scams, careful provision was made to protect legitimate companies which employ multi-tiered sales structures. Various other detailed bills made minor changes to law affecting physicians assistants working in free clinics, loss reserves under liability insurance provisions, and continuing education for real estate appraisers. And before adjourning, the green tree frog was officially designated the state amphibian of Georgia.
