With just two more legislative Days to go, lawmakers were hard at work yesterday under the Gold Dome. Among numerous bills considered, one gave lawmakers the opportunity to give a helping hand to servicemen. With a vote of 158 to 0 Senate Bill 481 was passed and allows servicemen who move out of state to register their cars and Also on the floor was a bill aimed at defining what constitutes Biodiesel and the banning of the pollutant MTBE already found in Georgia waters. Georgia would be joining twenty six other states whose legislatures already banned MTBE. With a passage of 165-0 Senate bill 636 easily cleared the House. Additionally, lawmakers unanimously approved a measure known as the Lacey Peterson Bill. Senate Bill 77 grants rights to unborn children at any stage of pregnancy. Consequently, it makes it a crime to harm a pregnant woman and her child and allows district attorneys the ability to prosecute assailants for two crimes. Also adopted was legislation bringing continuity to the salaries of certain county officials.
