DAILY RADIO SCRIPT
Friday, March 23, 2006 Legislative Day # 37

The House calendar was a hefty one yesterday in which some very important measures were addressed.

SB 606 passed the house earlier this afternoon, prohibiting demonstrations at the funerals of serviceman and public officials.  After such demonstrations occurred at the funerals of fallen soldiers in other areas, lawmakers believe that SB 606 will protect the families of those morning loved ones.

Lawmakers in the House also gave a nod to SB
396 which provides that Georgians have the right to use self-defense, with immunity from prosecution, to defend their property if force is used against them.  With a vote of 115 to 42, the bill now goes to the Governor.

The Georgia Community Streetcar Development and Revitalization Act received a helping hand from legislators today with SB 150.  The provision allows an implementation program to provide for the development and expansion of streetcar transportation.

Lawmakers also passed SB 413 which makes a general provision that students who wish to quit school at the age of 16 must have their parents’ permission and a conference with a school counselor concerning post secondary options.  The bill passed unanimously.
