.Lawmakers in the House took up many Senate measures yesterday on what was the 34th legislative day. Education, food products, and museums, were all issues considered by the House. The House considered and passed by committee substitute Senate Bill 79 which would allow for local school boards to offer an elective course on the literature and history of the old and new testaments. The measure passed by a vote of 151 to 7 and now goes back to the senate for consideration. The House also sent back to the Rules Committee Senate Bill 25. The proposed legislation extends the waiting period for no fault divorces only to 120 days beginning with separation for couples with minor children or if the woman is pregnant. The measure would also require a 3 hour parenting education class for the custodial parent. Various exceptions are also spelled out in the proposal. The House also approved legislation to align state law with federal regulations concerning standards for dairy products. A measure recognizing the importance of museums and allowing them to gain titles to abandoned properties after 7 years also received a favorable nod. |
