Yesterday saw a flurry of activity on a host of issues ranging from qualifications of optician apprentices who dispense pharmaceuticals to revamping regulations governing natural gas lines in order to promote production. In a move popular with an increasing number of communities, no time was wasted as lawmakers gave citizens of John’s Creek in Fulton Co. the nod to decide for themselves, Sandy Springs style, if they wish to become a city in HB 1321. The shift would provide for more balanced tax dollar distributions for the people of John’s Creek. Lawmakers quickly moved to HB 1190 which calls for a new method in dealing with multiple violators of Georgia 400’s toll. The state Toll-Way Authority reports that 100s of violations have occurred adding up to over $655,000 and with the toll instituted for at least another 5 years, the matter must be corrected. The measure calls for an immediate hold on vehicle registration renewals if tolls and/ or fines are not paid within 30 days of the offense. Also changed was the age limit, to four years old, of children for which care givers may be exempted from jury duty and legislation was approved which allows the video taped deposition of foreign nationals in certain criminal cases.
