Georgia House members today took up the first of what is sure to be many measures aimed at curbing illegal immigration and abuses associated with it. House Bill 1238 primarily focuses on wire transfers that as of today account nationally for $20 billion dollars a year of untaxed income being routed to Mexico alone. The bill would impose a 5% tax on the wire transfers of only those who are illegally in the country. Chartered banks are not affected by this legislation. Also the House passed a measure that, while technical in nature is very important, clears the way for the destruction and disposal of large numbers of chickens on poultry farms. Hopefully, it will never need application but the legal clarification was needed in case such exterminations are necessary to combat bird flu. The measure passed with a vote of 106 to 60. I’m Representative ________________ reporting from the capitol. |
