DAILY RADIO SCRIPT
Tuesday, February 8, 2006 Legislative Day # 15

Conservation was the word today as lawmakers moved swiftly to widen the state’s conserved green areas by broadening its list of tax deductions.

Under House Bill 1107 Georgian’s who donate property for conservation purposes will receive up to a $250,000 income tax credit for the gift.

The program, which is strongly supported by the governor, will be administered by the Department of Natural Resources and is expected to significantly strengthen the state’s overall conservation strategy both for environmental protection and public enjoyment.

Also adopted was the “TASER and Electronic Control Weapons Act.”

The aim of the bill is to ensure that law enforcement personnel who employ TASERS or stun guns are adequately trained in the safe use of these devices and that the law enforcement units which use them establish written policies and directives for their use which are consistent with policies established by the Peace Officers Standards and Training Council.

Additionally, legislation was approved which clarifies that someone is not committing a crime when they give someone a MARTA token. A recent case in which someone was arrested for doing so focused attention on this issue and the situation needed to be corrected.
